What is Humphrey Fellowship Program?

The Humphrey Fellowship Program has received funding as a Fulbright exchange activity from the U.S. Congress since 1978 to honor the public service career of the late Senator and Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey (1911-1978). A long-time advocate of international cooperation and understanding, Humphrey served as Vice President of the United States from 1965 to 1969 and for many years as a U.S. Senator from Minnesota

This fellowship program is for those professionals who have strong experience in a related field. This program helps in establishment of their leaderships skills concerning to the USA as well as fellowship holder country.

Who has Hosted This program?

All universities that participated in this program are regarded as hosted universities. Hence fellow is admitted accordingly at any one of the participating USA universities. Fellow are accommodated to particular university according to filed of study of fellow and professional filed. It means fellow can not choose where they won't to study.

As we know that this is a non-degree program designed for professional development. The level of study or field of study in this program is listed below.

How many fellows are awarded?

In this program, in each year about 200 fellowship are awarded by this program. Approximately 200 Fellowships are awarded annually.

What value of scholarship are included?

  • The Fellowship provides for:
  •        I.            A book allowance;
  •       II.            A maintenance (living) allowance, including a one-time settling-in allowance;
  •     III.            A one-time computer subsidy;
  •     IV.           A Professional Development allowance for professional activities, such as field trips, professional visits and conferences.
  •      V.            Accident and sickness coverage;
  •     VI.           Air travel (international travel to and from the U.S. for the program and domestic travel to required program events)
  •   VII.          Payment of tuition and fees at the assigned host university;
  •  VIII.           Pre-academic English language training, if required;

Who are eligible?

Any applicant mentioned above must have following features to apply in this program

         I.          An undergraduate (first university) degree,

       II.          A minimum of five years of full-time, professional experience

      III.            Limited or no prior experience in the United States,

     IV.            Demonstrated leadership qualities,

       V.            A record of public service in the community, and

     VI.            English language ability

How to apply for this program?

To apply in this program, you have to contact the USA Embassy in your respective country. They submit their nominations to the Institute of International Education office in Washington, DC by 1 October
